Mens Underwear Types – Style Guide for Men

There was a period when men’s underwear consisted solely of briefs and boxers. Nowadays, there are so many different styles of men’s underwear that you might wear a different model each day for a week and still have new styles to try. This quick guide to men’s underwear includes an overview of each type of men’s underwear, as well as its advantages and disadvantages, so you can determine which types work best for you.

The majority of men own a few pairs of briefs. They are your regular, everyday underwear, available in a variety of rises and designs suitable for light sports and going out. They protect your sensitive areas and buttocks but do not cover or constrain your legs or thighs.Men who look best in briefs need some help to keep everything in place but dislike the extra fabric found in boxer shorts.

Briefs are available in low-, medium-, and high-rise cuts to highlight the rear and profile. They show the groin and the underside of the thigh. It is important that there is no excess fabric.

Boxer Briefs

Calvin Klein launched a line of men’s underwear illustrated by rapper Marky Mark in 1992, which became known as boxer briefs. This long-lasting traditional type of men’s underwear could be referred to as “briefs plus.” A traditional boxer brief is a mid-rise brief that stretches down to cover about part of the thigh.

Some boxer brief models only cover about one-third of the thighs. They offer the same level of assistance as full-coverage briefs. Boxer briefs are appropriate for casual wear. They are typically made of a comfortable blend of fabric, such as spandex and cotton that works well beneath athletic gear for light sports. They usually have a keyhole fly, but this is not their distinguishing feature.

Boxer Shorts

Boxer shorts are a type of men’s underwear that was popular in the 1920s and has recently made a comeback on the men’s fashion scene. Nowadays it is probably one of the best mens underwear styles preferred by many.

Jacob Golomb, the maker of the Everlast Clothing Company, created boxer shorts in 1925. Boxers showed off leather-belted trunks before 1925. Golomb designed boxer shorts with a flexible waistband to allow the legs further freedom of travel in the ring, which was a critical style when they were worn. Boxer shorts were extremely common in the 1920s, before jockey-style briefs entered the market.

Trunks are becoming a more common alternative in men’s underwear. They are a hybrid between a boxer brief and a brief, but without the excess fabric found in boxer briefs. They have short legs and a square design. Trunks are an interesting choice if you want to try something new.

Trunks and boxer briefs are not quite the same thing. They are more like a square-cut brief, also known as a square-cut brief. A trunk is really a shorter or longer boxer brief, based on how you look at it. Many men are unaware that the undies they wear is trunks. If the leg is short but not quite a brief, it is most likely a trunk.
